Have you ever wanted to play guitar and belt out a tune, whether for your own enjoyment or the enjoyment of others? Do you want to be a campfire entertainer; accompany other guitar players while playing lead guitar; be able to play songs you hear on the radio and recordings - all by ear, without having to read music, even if you've never played guitar before?
Then PLAY GUITAR BY EAR was written for you!
They say playing an instrument is a release of the soul, and I believe it, absolutely! There's no better sounding blues than when it's truly felt, or light songs when you're feeling good. There's nothing so healing and soothing for the soul, than making music, not to mention the social advantages of being a guitar player. Learning a couple of songs and a few lead guitar licks will increase your social standing immensely. I don't want to go on too much on this point, but take my word for it, playing guitar can change your life!
Hello, my name is Ron Cummer. I've been playing guitar for over twenty years and I'd like to teach you to PLAY GUITAR BY EAR.
Over the years, a lot of my friends have asked me to teach them to play guitar. Some say they've tried to learn and just don't have the musical ability, or the patience. Well, I think that anyone can learn. If you can hum a tune, or tap your foot to a rhythm, you can learn to play an instrument and make music.
I've developed a system of instruction for beginner guitar that has taught many of my friends and their children. It's an excellent tool for teaching others to play because it's easy, fun, and has almost instant results. Anyone can learn from it!
If you've ever wanted to play guitar, but have never had the confidence, the time, or the means to employ a teacher, I have put my system into print.
There are no music reading skills involved! If you can't read music, don't let that deter you. If you can, that's a bonus, but it will have no great effect on your progress with this system. You'll be able to jam with your friends; write your own songs; develop your own lead guitar style - and much more. You'll become familiar with barre (or bar) chords - what they are and how to use them. You'll be able to play lead guitar to different types of music - even if you've never heard the song before. You'll be able to play in any key and in different octaves - all pretty easy once you understand the theory behind the neck of the guitar.
When I was young, and trying to master the guitar, I was always on the lookout for a book that would magically explain, in an easy-to-understand language, all the secrets that accomplished guitarists knew. But all the books were in such complicated jargon, that you needed a music degree to understand them. I wish there was a book like this 15 or 20 years ago. I would have accomplished my musical goals long before I did. Actually, you never stop learning. Ever!
PLAY GUITAR BY EAR can be a beginning guitarist's best friend. It will open new doors in music for you. There are things in it that experienced players know, and things they don't know. For the rest of your life you'll notice musicians more, observing their playing styles. You'll also notice different things about the music you hear, and actually enjoy it more!
This book is an invaluable guide for the person who wants to write their own songs and music. Playing guitar is just as much fun when done alone, as with a group of friends, sometimes more, not to mention the satisfaction of mastering a new song and adding it to your repertoire.
PLAY GUITAR BY EAR is actually four books in one. The first is Play Guitar By Ear, the second is Lead Guitar By Ear, the third is The Slide and Steel Guitar Primer, and the fourth is The Complete Guitar Note Guide, which shows the location of every note on the neck of the guitar and explains how to use it to your advantage. Also included is a trick for remembering anything, and what could be the most important thing about playing the harmonica (can also be applied to lead guitar). This book is jam-packed with valuable information on playing, tuning, and maintaining the guitar (quick repairs). Every aspect of guitar playing is covered here - rhythm, lead, slide and more - in easy-to-understand language.
No matter what your style of music, you'll find instructions that will improve your playing. You can learn anything - from bluegrass, to blues (there's a good section on 12 bar blues), to country, to rock and roll. There's even a section on boogie-woogie. You'll be surprised how often these styles are used in every type of music
Whether guitar is your hobby, dream, or profession, like any good craftsman, you're always wanting to improve your tool box. To do the best job, you need the best tools. The information in this book will greatly improve the quality and selection of your tools, and you can never have enough good tools.
For less than the price of a tank of gas, less than the price of a carton of cigarettes, even cheaper than the price of a few cocktails, you can have an invaluable guide to guitar playing, that you'll keep for the rest of your life.
This book will always be useful, no matter what type of music you play!
